"Cuando el fuego apaga el huracán" brings together the most recent body of work by Nuria Fuster (Alcoy, Alicante, 1978). In her third solo exhibition at the Marta Cervera gallery, the artist returns to the field of phenomenology, focusing on this occasion on its interdependence with the human psyche. From this premise, Fuster explores how this bidirectional relationship gives rise to situations of disorientation, anguish, obsession, anxiety or need, while seeking in matter a channel of mediation.

These new works show a special interest in matter in extreme conditions, both physical and affective. Each of the sculptures and photographs presented to us have been literally subjected, with all the weight that the word throws at them. Different processes of combustion (real and digital), fractionation and domination invade the works, generating a tormented atmosphere where the narratives linked to the objects bring their psychic potential into play. Unfolding the cathartic capacity of matter, Fuster approaches a reparation that is not always possible, being those borderline points that generate reactions, altering and recomposing reality, the ones that interest the artist.

An installation of steel plates shows the imprecise point from which Nuria's work emerges. The three compositions, tied by chains to a metal bar, move ambiguously between subjects and objects. Even fractioned and subdued, they continue to demonstrate the uncontrollable capacity of the object by means of which it becomes a space for speculation.

On the other hand, the series of photographs shows an evolution with respect to previous series of a more abstract nature. On this occasion we not only recognise what is represented, but it is also the two-dimensional translation of certain objects found in space, thus multiplying their capacity of reach. In these pieces the artist has transferred combustion, a common sculptural process in her practice, to the field of the image, making colour behave in the same way as temperature. Digitally burned, their standards of warmth have been raised to unsustainable levels of temperature, affecting their integrity and placing the image on the margins of the ‘’balanced‘’.

Fuster is obsessed by this projection that physical reality imposes on us, hence this gradual repetition in which the object has been burnt, subjected, transferred to different supports and worn to exhaustion, in a kind of psychological sequence of gradual intensity.

"Cuando el fuego apaga el huracán" reveals in the materials a self-organised cosmos that interferes with our psychic dynamics. While examining the inseparable link between human production, affect and matter, the exhibition generates an experience that pushes any stable perception of reality to its limits.

"Cuando el fuego apaga el huracán" reúne el cuerpo de trabajo más reciente de Nuria Fuster (Alcoy, Alicante, 1978). En su tercera exposición individual en la galería Marta Cervera, la artista vuelve a acercarse al campo de la fenomenología, centrándose en esta ocasión en su interdependencia con la psique humana. Desde esa premisa, Fuster explora como en esta relación bidireccional se originan situaciones de desorientación, angustia, obsesión, ansiedad o necesidad, mientras busca en la materia un canal de mediación.

En estas nuevas obras se aprecia un especial interés por la materia en condiciones extremas, tanto físicas como afectivas. Cada una de las esculturas y fotografías que se nos presentan, han sido literalmente sometidas, con todo el peso que la palabra arroja. Distintos procesos de combustión (real y digital), fracción y dominación invaden las obras, generando un ambiente atormentado dónde las narrativas vinculadas a los objetos ponen en juego su potencial psíquico. Desplegando la capacidad catártica de la materia, Fuster se acerca a una reparación no siempre posible, siendo esos puntos limítrofes que generan reacciones, alterando y recomponiendo la realidad, los que interesan a la artista.

Una instalación de placas de hierro acerado da muestra del punto impreciso desde el que surge la obra de Nuria. Las tres composiciones atadas mediante cadenas a una barra metálica, se mueven con ambigüedad entre sujetos y objetos. Aún fraccionadas y sometidas siguen dando muestra de esa capacidad incontrolable del objeto mediante el cual se convierte en espacio de especulación.

Por otro lado, en la serie de fotografías se muestra una evolución respecto a otras series anteriores de corte más abstracto. En esta ocasión no solo reconocemos lo representado, sino que se trata de la traducción bidimensional de ciertos objetos que se encuentran en el espacio, multiplicando así su capacidad de alcance. En estas piezas la artista ha trasladado la combustión, un proceso escultórico habitual en su práctica, al campo de la imagen, haciendo que sea el color el que se comporte del mismo modo que la temperatura. Quemadas digitalmente, sus estándares de calidez se han elevado hasta niveles de temperatura insostenibles, afectando a su integridad y situando la imagen en los márgenes de lo ‘‘equilibrado’’.

A Fuster le obsesiona esa proyección que la realidad física impone sobre nosotros, por ello esta repetición gradual en la que el objeto ha sido quemado, sometido, trasladado a diferentes soportes y desgastado hasta la extenuación, en una especie de secuencia psicológica de intensidad gradual.

"Cuando el fuego apaga el huracán" revela en los materiales un cosmos auto-organizado que interfiere en nuestras dinámicas psíquicas. A la vez que examina la indisociable vinculación entre producción humana, afección y materia, la exposición genera una experiencia que lleva al límite cualquier percepción estable de la realidad.
